Is anyone out there familiar with the show Hex?

BBC America has just begun running it here in the states, and my parents made me watch the first episode, partially because they thought I'd like it, and partially out of revenge for getting them hooked on Veronica Mars. It's brilliant and bizarre and I'd love to know if anyone else WAS watching it, as there are a few matters I'd like to discuss. Or just, yanno, the show in general.

They're re-running the pilot tonight at 11, and fans of things like Buffy/Angel, Supernatural, Charmed and the like would do well not to miss it. Set your tivos, especially if your names are [livejournal.com profile] antheia and [livejournal.com profile] alcestis. (oh, and [livejournal.com profile] squiddeh? It's not dumb. At all. It's fun. At least I thought so.) It's a bit slow to start, but once it does, it's pretty engaging. Episode 2 is on Thursday at 10, which is its usual time slot.

Done and done. I got this about 2 minutes before the repeat was due to start, and I started the recording just in time.

Besides, any excuse to see you is ok by me. :)

You are so much of the awesome, I can't even deal. *g*

Absotively -- I've got my date book with me today, and now that the madness has subsided, we'll figure something out.

*beams* I try.

We could even do a few evenings, yanno. I mean, for me, as many weekends as possible are going to be spent at the beach (for obvious reasons) but that's no reason we can't do dinner or similar. Or if it rains.

If only the whole world had summer fridays - it would all be so much easier!

Seriously, who do we have to petition to get a month of summer fridays?

But yeah, we'll sort it out.

Ugh, I hated the big deal Sky made of that show.

I can see where that'd be annoying. Maybe British television is better without their own commercials?

Well, the BBC doesn't have commercials, but Sky does. Sky has commercials up the yingyang. But they're always like that with their own programmes. Though personally I think they should stick to just importing American TV shows like 24 and Stargate.
Besides, like I said, it was one of Sky's own shows, and those are rarely interesting to watch. The basic format changes, but it's always the same actors in series about softcore dumb sleaze, whether it's a football team or an airline or in this case, Buffy. But what I thought was really silly was the frankly dumb mix of paganism and Christianity. It's like mixing ice cream with curry, it doesn't really work. Pagotianity?

Seriously. They lost me at "lesbian ghost".

Well, as someone who doesn't get regular access to Sky, I'm shielded from that. (And you can insert Fox where you were complaing about Sky, and there's a problem I have with that network on American television. With the exception of Bones, of course. Never much got into 24.)

Also - the Christianity/Paganism thing makes more sense to someone (like me) with a peasant Italian/Catholic background - let's just say that the mixing of those two isn't quite unheard of. And I'd try curry ice cream - I mean, it does nice things to mayonaise, I can't see it being too terrible. But I can also see it being awful.

(and hey, don't knock soft-core. ;) Some of us like a good bit of tacky cheese in their diet, particularly in the summer. After all, I watch Entourage on a regular basis...)

Hey, you don't need to tell me twice, I live in Ireland. We got pagan monuments right next door to Christian monasteries. The thing about that is, they're separated by hundreds if not thousands of years. But mixing the two together is just more than a little odd to me.
I mean, Witches doing Voodoo. That's like a Hindu officiating at a Bar Mitzvah.

The Fox/Sky connection shouldn't be too much of a surprise. Sky is owned by Ruport Murdoch, same as Fox. Half the shows on Sky are by Fox. Bones is one of them, but I don't watch it.

Still. "Lesbian ghost". I mean, seriously.
Am I the only one who sees those two words together and can just SEE the producers all over it?
Producer A: "It's a spooky show. So we're gonna need a ghost."
Producer B: "And a lesbian! Lesbians are big now! It's the only way to have a token gay without having to look at two dudes going Brokeback."
Producer A: "So. Ghost..."
Producer B: "Lesbian..."
Producer A: *putting hands together* "Ghost Lesbian!"
Producer B: "I'm liking it!"
Producer A: "And only the perky-breasted blonde can see her!"
Producer B: "You mean like The Great Gazoo?"
Producer A: "...No, I do NOT mean like The Great Gazoo. Our lesbian ghost can touch and eat and breathe and open doors."
Producer B: "And have sex with the perky-breasted blonde."
Producer A: "Wouldn't that be kinda necrophilia a bit?"
Producer B: "Not if it's two chicks and a guy watching, dumbass!"

I watched it and yes, it looks very...addictive.

What should we discuss? :)

Oh, where to begin? *g*

Let's start with Cassie's initial lack of backbone. I tend to like my heroines aggressive and quippy (like Thelma is), and Cassie seems to be too introverted right now. I'm hoping that'll change.

Also, are you convinced about the chemistry between her and her male love interest (Troy?)?

Cassie is the stereotypical hottie-in-mouse clothing. The actress is just good enough to make her seem like a real person, though, not a stereotype. They gave all the sharpness to the lesbian roommate. I think they did a good job on that relationship, though.

Not terribly much, just because he seems like a real jerk. And not in that fascinating, can't-look-away Logan Echolls kind of jerk, just...boring. However, maybe he'll grow as a character.

I rather like Giles the headmaster and Jenny Callendar the teacher.

But the demon guy, Mister Emo Too Much Eyeliner? Would like him to shut up.

I agree that Thelma got the bulk of the personality and sass, and it makes me wish they'd done a bit more to make Cassie less of a mouse and more of a force (but I suppose that's what the rest of the season is for, I mean, we all have to remember what Buffy was like in HER origin story). I like their relationship, although Thelma's pouting about Cassie's lack of interest got a bit tedious. (I mean, hello? She set herself up for THAT disappointment, really.)

Yes, exactly. Logan and Spike are/were charismatic, flawed, fascinating Jerks. This guy? Dull.

Hee - Giles and Jenny 2.0 are great. And I hope they hook up, because I like them together. (I'm also wondering if they're the ones who played Jules & Mimi on this fake BBC show they had on Sex & the City a few seasons back - it would be pretty funny if it was!)

Mister Emo Too Much Eyeliner? HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Hence, he shall forevermore be named.

Well, you've got your hands full over there. But I'm glad to hear people are watching the show - it looks like it'll be a good one.

(hope you guys aren't in the path of the hurricane...)

Thanks! All we got was just a ton of much needed rain. Very fortunate.

It's been great, having cloud cover keeping the sun from beating down on us down here.

w00t for Hex again!

Seriously. Although I wish Cassie was more extroverted and quippy.

I wanted to watch Dr. Who. Very much. But I was suffering from show overload, so I didn't. I'm going to try to netflix it. Do you need to see the old ones as well as the new ones?

i definitely think that ghost!chick!thelma! will help cassie come into her own...and last night i felt like she was already getting over being such a "follower." azazeal is hot!!

as for "dr. who", i never saw the original. jeff did, and sometimes he'll point out in-jokes and shout-outs, but, for the most part, you don't need to have see the original.

Well, that's good to know about Dr. Who. I've heard good things, about the new series and the older one that starred Tom Baker, so it's just a matter of actually watching them. (Oh, and Red Dwarf...)

I hope Cassie gets over the follower bit - it tends to get on my nerves. I <3 Thelma, though. Except when she's being Pouty McEmopants about Cassie liking guys.

i fell asleep watching it last night. Saw bits and pieces of it. Definitely started out slow. Definitely Charmed meets Buffy.
