The definition of anguish is getting offered a chance to sit in a field-level seat at Yankee stadium (for a game with a 1:05 start time) and not being able to accept because of work. Normally, such an offer would be greeted with an enthusiastic yes, after which you call in fake sick, claiming to have some form of diarrhea or other stomach distress that no one wants to hear about anyway. After the call is made, you can nap for a few extra hours, have some food, then head over to the game, and pass a lovely afternoon drinking beer and watching baseball in the lovely weather.

But No. No. Your boss is going on vacation (and never mind the fact that YOU haven't been on vacation since mid-march and REALLY fucking need one!), and you have PILES of work to do. PILES. And YOU CAN'T GO TO THE FRIGGING YANKEE GAME. AAAAUUUUGHHH!!!

Oddly, you are the second person that I know who had to turn down tickets to today's game due to professional commitments. No one is very happy about it. Being a "good and responsible employee" blows. But it does allow for indignant righteousness when approaching tasks.

You are quite right about that. I was talking about sports with our new employee and we were able to comisserate about situations like this one. And the boss in question who prevented my attendance at said game overheard, and was both grateful and apologetic. So, win-win, I suppose. (Except for the team. They got crushed. Ah well.)

And then, to top it all off? The bastard who offered you the tickets in the first place sends a picture of the view from his seat with the snarky subject of "Greetings from Yankee Stadium."

Bastard!

;)

You mean the same bastard who's taking me to Old Timer's Day next Saturday?

He must have had an excellent view of the Yanks getting the shit kicked out of them yesterday. Mussina, WTF?
