Dear LJ Genie:
I need a reliable, reputable, competent source for data recovery from a hard drive. Said HD is spinning and does not seem to be corrupted beyond the fact that the circuit boards that allow it to communicate with the motherboard to not be functioning. More than anything, I'd prefer a place that's not going to charge as much or more as my laptop cost. Can you help?

In happier news, I called Time Warner and I am now set up for wireless in my apartment on my laptop. I don't understand, nor do I remember, how I used to function when it was desk or nothing. And it's been less than a week!!! It's still funny - it feels off somehow, like this isn't a "real" computer (even though it is, obviously).

Mmm. Tired. Bed now.

why'd you need to get set up for wireless? I thought all you had to do was get a wireless router...that's what i did...

Our wireless network is secured, and I wasn't sure if I had the correct key to log in. As it turns out I didn't, so the nice man helped me get the right login key, and now I'm wireless. Yaye!

If you like, you can come by my office today and I can see if the drive has even a chance of recovery without using a recovery lab. However, if it does need a recovery lab, the cost of those labs is pretty much at least a grand.

I'm honestly sorry that I didn't get this comment sooner, but I'll be happy to take you up on that. My sister's boyfriend found a lab that quoted me a minimum of $500. Based on what happened, he thinks invasive recovery is necessary, but if you could prove that absolutely, that would be awesome. Back in high school they used to call you the Pope with good reason, and I doubt anything has changed in that regard. :)

=) It should only take me a few mins to determine the drives recoverability. I'm going to be in my office tommorow, but I have no idea when and for how long. Otherwise I wont be back in my office until next Thurday %-|
