Last night, I couldn't get to sleep at all.

I'm not sure why. Maybe it was dinner (it didn't agree with me, to say the least). Maybe I just wasn't tired (it happens every so often). I kept trying to close my eyes and go to sleep, but it just wasn't working. I tried watching a few episodes of Sex & the City (all I had handy) to bore myself to sleep, but it wasn't working. I'm beginning to think I should keep Lost in Translation in my room (I don't know why, but that movie always manages to lull me to sleep) for nights like this. I slept from 12:30 to 1:30, then from 3 or so until 7:45, when I finally gave up and started doing things I don't usually make time for on the weekends - I listened to This American Life (a podcast from a few weeks ago, anyway. I'd heard this week's already, and the first part is fantastic). I read some stuff online, and for the past hour or so, I've been listening to Sufjan Stevens' Illinoise album, which perfectly encapsulates my dreamy, out-of-it sort of mood. My itunes hopped across "The Tallest Man, The Broadest Shoulders" and I enjoyed it so much I decided to listen to the entire album. It's really amazing - it's lush, swirling, quirky and the way it's produced and arranged is nothing short of marvelous.

New Orleans Girl and I have been playing a game at work, on and off - the ideal concerts game (one I've also played with [livejournal.com profile] blergeatkitty on a few occasions). My favorite of my picks so far has been the Flaming Lips/Polyphonic Spree show I envisioned, which would end in a grand finale duet medley of the Spree's "Light and Day" with the Lips's "Do You Realize?" . I was quite pleased with this idea, but I may have a new one to propose on Monday: Sufjan Stevens and the Arcade Fire. Which reminds me - does anyone have Neon Bible yet? How is it?

This insomniac development is frustrating - I feel sort of tired, but my eyes refused to close at any point, and my entire body felt like it was racing. I'm not sure what's causing this development, but I'm sure that I don't approve of it at all.

In a little bit, I'm going to get dressed, get my dry cleaning, and a bagel. I have less than nothing in my stomach at this point, so it seems like the perfect opportunity (not to mention the fact that as foods go, bagels are generally the nicest to me of all). Then I must get some stuff together and begin heading up to Meg's, as we're supposed to spend the afternoon together before heading out to the bars later.

I had a lovely time with [livejournal.com profile] redesigner last night, as always, despite the fact that the Jazz at the Natural History event we tried to attend was a total and complete disappointment. They tout it as either free/mostly free or cheap on their site, which is just blatantly untrue. It's a shame, because the performers were great (though we didn't stay very long). He and I both would like to check out a bit more jazz, though, so we'll probably be hitting up Barbes, Puppets and other venues around the city in the near future. We also went to Bouchon Bakery for dinner, which was terrific (at least I thought so - I'm beginning to wonder if I'd encountered some questionable tuna, but it's hard to say). It would not stop me from going back there, however.

Right then. Time to get moving.

My tuna was alright though I, sadly, suspect I may be developing a mild tuna allergy as the last couple times I've had it, it's made me mildly itchy. I suppose there are worse things, but it's still annoying.

Tuna allergy? That sucks. Tuna is one of my favorite things!

I have no idea if it was the tuna, the mayo, or possibly even the greens. Or maybe my body didn't like the additional hot chocolate at the end. I have no idea, only that Friday late night was extremely unpleasant.

Neon Bible

I am SO curious to hear some Sufjan Stevems - and this post made me even MORE curious!

I never EVER get a lot of sleep - I wonder if this means I am walking around in a permanent state of swirl? Heehee! That sucks about not being able to sleep, though. I hate when that happens.

The thing that bugged me is that it was just so arbitrary - there was no reason for me to not be completely asleep that night.

And everyone needs a different amount of sleep. I happen to need more than some people, others can get by with much less than I do (but enjoy more on occasion).

You should definitely check Sufjan Stevens out. He's great.
