I said oh-ee-oh-ee-oh! ICE! ICE! ICE!

There may yet come a day when I don't respond to someone's declaration of
"Brr! It's cold in here!"
with
"There must be some Clovers in the at-mos-phere!"
But that's not a day I look forward to.
Two points I'm pondering:
1. Would anyone outside of Britain give a crap about Guy Fawkes' Day if not for Alan Moore?
2. Will the writers get what they deserve? I hope so. They produce the content that keeps me me fangirling, and they deserve better percentages of sales. That much I agree with. Maybe I'll post something longer in Teacup later. Usually strikes piss me off, but I'm finding myself supporting this one.

Date: 2007-11-05 03:33 pm (UTC)And, of course, I'm especially interested in all this on the basis of "someday I'd love to be a WGA member and maybe do some screenwriting work, so let's hope they get a better deal before I get there..."

Date: 2007-11-05 03:45 pm (UTC)Nor mine. If they have to do the work, they should get paid for it. Not only that, if the show is going to be earning money from Internet sales and dvd sales, and not compensating the writers for it, that's just Not Cool.
(and ditto on the WGA thing. Oh, man, ditto.)

Date: 2007-11-05 03:31 pm (UTC)Exactly. I could see the creator of a show getting a larger share, especially if they're actively involved in the day-to-day (like Whedon or Kripke), but why a producer deserves that large share when no one is even sure what a producer does is as incomprehnsible to me as Bandom.
I'm also curious about two things: 1) how and whether the Teamsters will support this, and 2) what the repercussions/rewards will ultimately be for SAG & DGA members. Interesting times.
Me too! I suppose time will only tell. Do you know if SAG and DGA contemplating a sympathy strike? I haven't heard anything, and I kind of doubt it, but I'm still curious.

Not to my knowledge, but they've commented that the resolution of the WGA strike will have resonance for their contracts.

Date: 2007-11-05 03:20 pm (UTC)Psst. I think you mean Alan Moore. ;)
(And I learned of it from Daria, thankyouverymuch!)

Date: 2007-11-05 03:26 pm (UTC)I thought about mentioning Daria, but did anyone mention the poem in Daria? I know Guy Fawkes was one of the funniest characters in a really funny episode, but people weren't going around quoting "Remember remember" after it was on, no?

Date: 2007-11-05 03:36 pm (UTC)However, I will count Daria as where I learned about the poem, because a friend I met through Daria fandom was the person who taught it to me.

And we're the ones who're down with it!

Date: 2007-11-05 11:36 pm (UTC)Me too. This seems like it's not terribly unreasonable and you KNOW that the studios play massive games with the accounting.
