So, last night may go down in the history books as one of my FAVORITE New Year's Eves ever. I had a great time with friends old and new, danced and drank, yet avoided too many of the associated pains of both. Good, good times.

And now, since 2008: Year of Ambivalence is finally over, I can post my year in review survey!

2008: the Year that Was.

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?

Attend the major Star Trek convention in Las Vegas
Experienced Las Vegas in the summer
Made a non-accidental call to 911
Attended a school reunion
Voted for a president that actually won the election

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Last year I resolved to have more fun (check), go to the gym more (hahahah...no), and to find a hobby that occupied my mind. (who knows?)

This year I also resolve to try to get into a better workout program, to save more money, and to continue to stand up for myself and my needs as much as possible.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

[livejournal.com profile] quodlibetic  gave birth to the beautiful Alice! ([livejournal.com profile] rhinoplastique  was also heavily involved in the pre-production process, I'm sure! XD)

4. Did anyone close to you die?

A close friend of my dad's died earlier this year. :( He is dearly missed.

5. What countries did you visit?
Not a one - I stayed stateside.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?

More money, more travel, more time to stuff that I want to do and less time cleaning. :P

7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

March 8 - day of the awesome birthday of awesome
April 18 - the day I met [livejournal.com profile] j_bkl !!!
Vegas, baby.
My SISTER ELOPING.
My dad's accident
the day J asked me to move in with him.
Meeting J's family
November 2 - the greatest election day/night ever. (So far!)

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Not losing my mind.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Letting too much of the little shit get to me, not always expressing what's bothering me, and not standing up for myself enough. (also, not keeping a better handle on where all the money is going.)

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Other than the occasional cold or stomach ick, not really.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

My membership to the Brick Theater, obviously. Tickets to Vegas and the con were a close second.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
J. Who continues to be just amazing. Also, my wonderful, amazingly supportive friends - I would be lost without you.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

So many, both in the private and public sphere.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Bills, beach club, travel, just doing stuff and living life.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

J. My sister getting married. Obama. Winning an Ipod at work through an actual idea I had, not just a random drawing.

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?

"The way I am" by Ingrid Michaelson. Maybe it didn't come out this year, but it certainly played a big role.
also:
"All my stars aligned" - St. Vincent
"Strange Powers" - The Magnetic Fields
"Brilliant Mistake"
"Sour Cherry" - The kills
"I will follow you into the dark" - Death Cab for Cutie
"Single Ladies (put a ring on it)" - Beyonce

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

ii. thinner or fatter? I'd say fatter, but so many people keep telling me I look thinner.
iii. richer or poorer? financially poorer, emotionally richer.

Being as happy and well adjusted as my boyfriend is.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Being stressed. Worrying.

Supernatural, Mad Men, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, Bones, Gossip Girl, L-Word, and Leverage

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Anyone who voted Yes on Prop 8. And I'm really starting to hate Time Warner Cable.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I hosted a massive party at the Dram Shop in Park Slope a day or so before I turned 28. It was massive, too. I was absolutely touched and amazed by how many of the people invited showed up. It was one of my favorite birthdays ever. It was so awesome, it spawned a quickly produced sequel, on my actual birthday, which featured karaoke!

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

More money.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
I'm trying more and more to find the most flattering, interesting clothes that I can. It's an ongoing process.

Women's choice and the right for EVERYONE to be able to marry.

36. Who did you miss?

37. Who was the best new person you met?
J. I can't even believe how much better and brighter he makes every day.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:

Men plan, God Laughs. And, what everyone was always telling me about love was true - it comes when and where you absolutely do not expect it.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"If you were falling/then I would catch you..." Ingrid Michaelson, "The Way I am."
