That's how it goes

When I was 14, the Rangers won the Stanley cup. It was awesome and exciting, and a major memory I will always cherish.

However, the 1995 season was somewhat less...memorable. Ditto for the season after that. (In essence, they stunk up the joint.)

I remember complaining to my dad.

"You think THIS is bad? He said? One or two years since they won the cup? Kiddo, I've been a Ranger fan since 1960. And you know how many times I've seen them win a stanley cup? ONCE. And it was the same time you did. They do this ALL of the time. "

"Do what?" I ask.

"Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Make it to the semis or the finals and then just choke spectacularly. After a few years, and then a few decades, you can't even be upset anymore."

"How?"

"Well, baseball season starts up, and that usually distracts me some."

Of course, the 1996 baseball season had a LOT of things to distract us with. Ditto with 1998, 1999, and 2000.

Oh, and the Yankees won today, in case anyone is interested....

See, I've actually used this to diffuse a baseball argument:

Anti Yankee Person: blah blah Yankees unfair blah, they win all the time blah blah Unfair why would you support them?

ME: Well, I'm also a NY Ranger fan. Don't you think that kind of balances out?

AYP: ....Huh. Ok, I'll give you that.

hahaha... yeah, that's how it goes with the Eagles and the Phillies for me. Eagles choke in the play-offs and the Phillies go to the World Series. Last year seemed to be Yankee destiny. They won't have that on their side this year. Muahahahaaaa... Never fear, I'm anti-Mets.
