Blah blah days off blah. Yesterday I did such exciting things as order Indian takeaway and finish watching Downton Abbey. (Season 2 now please? Thanks.)

TODAY WAS MORE EXCITING.

So, working for BIP has some perks, always had. Today was a MAJOR ONE.

I got to meet this dude. (for those of you playing at home, yes, that is MOTHERFUCKING WEIRD AL YANKOVIC.)

Holy Hell. I got to talk to him for about a minute, but he was OMG SO NICE. SO NICE. He signed a copy of the book for me and everything. And seemed genuinely pleased when I said I was a huge fan for many years. (I first heard "Eat It" at age 5 or 6, and I adored it. It was cemented in high school when [livejournal.com profile] whtegrlwthehair lent me her Weird Al mix tape. Plus, when MTV and Vh1 actually did crazy things like play music videos, I saw a ton of his, and goddamn, they were funny). He seemed impressed that I was willing to come into work on a day off JUST to meet him. Just to meet him? Dude. It's Weird Al. I would have been kicking myself for the rest of ever if I'd passed this opportunity up.

So, it's been a Weird Al day around here. I finally got The Essential Weird Al and have been listening to its awesomeness all day. My coworkers should be grateful they were spared my Al-athon.

Granted a few things I like are missing ("This is the Life" belongs on there, okay? And "I think I'm a clone now," and "The Rye or the Kaiser" And where is "This song is just six words long"??) Maybe there are more artists who've had more hits, but few have been as consistently awesome as this guy. True story.

I'm still full of awesome fannish goodness. I will leave you with the following exchage:

Me: I always wanted to drive through Lancaster County in Pennsylvania with the windows down, blaring "Amish Paradise" at top volume.
[livejournal.com profile] j_bkl: I love you. Even though you're a sick woman.

Al is Da Man!

Lemme know if you want to borrow the Ultimate Video Collection. Back in the days of Napster, I spent some time grabbing the originals (where relevant), so I could have "It's All about the Benjamins", "Gangster's Paradise" (featured in Green Hornet 3D), etc. Julia, sadly, prefers Beat It & Bad -- better for dancing -- but appreciates Al's improved remakes too!

Sure! I've seen it before, long ago, possibly on MTV with Al hosting.

[livejournal.com profile] j_bkl and I have decided that Al should put out a duets album, in which he does versions of his hits with the artists who made the originals. We think it would be epic.

Probably about the only way I'd enjoy watching MJ, and we already know what he'd look like reanimated (cf. "Thriller").
