Look's like Mikey has gotten into it again, and this time with Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings (is he still in office?!).

To their exchange I can only say: ha haahahahahahaaha!!!

January 22, 2004 -- MAYOR Bloomberg, who has enough trouble with the state Legislature, may have inadvertently started a feud with the whole city of Albany. Hizzoner is heading north Monday to respond to Gov. Pataki's State of the State speech. Bloomberg told City Hall reporters: "I am sure that all of you will join me in Albany, where the skies will be clear, and it will be a little chillier, and you'll realize just what a wonderful city you live in." The diss didn't sit well with Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings, who said, "I'd like to take him to a fine restaurant and spend some time here, where it's a little quieter and a little nicer than what he may be used to." Oh, really? Albany DA Paul Clyne recently told Post State Editor Fredric U. Dicker that Albany County has a higher per capita crime rate than New York City. Recently several reporters, including two from the New York Times, have been mugged in the state capital.

Two points:
1. Cuisine-wise, you could do a LOT worse than Albany. There were some real bright spots up there, namely Peaches Cafe (which I still miss) , Bombers' Burritos (ditto), Peking (great Asian Fusion), Uncommon Grounds (their bagel sandwiches and tea!!) and Ichiban (nice Japanese/Chinese place). There were also several good mexican, caribbean, vegetarian, steakhouse, and Greek restaurants around there as well. There was even a place or two with half-decent pizza. There was a lot to rag on in Albany, but I never felt food was one of those things. It may not be as fancy as some places in NYC, but that's a good and a bad thing.

2. Albany was a lot more run-down, sketchy and segregated than NYC is. Way to brag about that, Mayor JJ. Honestly. How is that nicer?

Mr. Popularity now, isn't he?

While I have my misgivings about Hier Bloomberg, he was pretty well right on with that one.

Also, just imagine Bloomberg and Jennings sitting down for a nice dinner at Bombers. THAT would be worth the price of admission. I think by "nice restaurant", Jennings meant something more along the lines of the Desmond or Butcher Block or someplace else we've probably never frequented.

And please tell me you didn't seriously compare the pizza in Albany with anything down here. I think that's about on par with saying the Albany elementary school intramural little league team is half decent compared to the New York Yankees. Now, I know you're still in denial about having been away from the center of civilization for four years, but that's no reason to start spouting mendacities.

I agree. And when I agree with Bloomberg, that's a scary day.

I am also now giggling incontrolably at the idea of Bloomberg & Jennings at Bombers. That's amazing.
*snerk*

I was also at the Butcher Block with some amount of frequency - my parents liked the place, so we usually wound up there when they were visiting. And I can recall at least one occasion (when Chris was visiting ) when we ate there.

I am not, for the record, attempting to compare Albany Pizza with NYC pizza. At all. I'm just saying that there were a few pizzarias up there (Paesan's, Cusatos and Raffael's - even though I usually ate there when drunk) that weren't completely vile.

oh, did you get the link to the article I emailed you?

I'm not dead yet!

I think I'll pull through, really!

Yeah, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry about the article - I could very easily see that happening in my office.

'Sall good. The image of Bloomberg trying to eat a burrito the size of his head listening to Ramstein music on Bombers broken jukebox will carry me through the day.

You could? I'm really afraid now. Really afraid.

Yeah..that is a good image. Do you think he'd attempt a game of Ms. Pac-Man?

Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings (is he still in office?!).

DUDE!!! Was he elected for life or something? Heavens.

And Albany's fine. At night. Driving through. Doors locked. Just peachy then.

I was not aware you were familiar with Albany!

Possibly. Or maybe the term of office in Albany is like 10 years or something. Who knows?

Oh sure! Just fine and dandy (as long as you stay out of Arbor Hill....)
